Yamamoto Menzou is widely considered to be Kyoto's #1 udon specialty restaurant.
There's a huge line of customers out the door every day looking to get their hands on this restaurant's delightfully slippery and chewy noodles, hand-made daily by the owner-chef who honed his skills in Kagawa, the home of udon.
Their most popular dish is their "zaru-udon (630 yen)," which lets you truly enjoy the rich-bodied noodles.
We recommend adding on the extra topping "tsuchigobou tempura (290 yen extra)," an original take that's eaten topped with curry powder.

Mitsuyasu is one of my favorite restaurants in Kyoto.
The owner chef there is the kind of chef you don't see often, who can really charm his costumers even without using luxurious ingredients.
It's a good value, and I think it'll be the perfect place to stop by as your first restaurant during your Kyoto trip.

Of course I know the restaurant.
It is one of the most symbolic Kappou restaurants in Kyoto (Kappou being a type of traditional Japanese cuisine).
The overall saltiness of their dishes is moderate and it is said that it tastes especially bland among Kyoto’s regional cuisine.
The dishes which are made by the owner are very tasty without relying on seasoning. I guess it would depend on people's preferences if they like it or not.
However, their lunch is great value for the price as you said and I think that it would be worth giving a try.

Yes, Kokyu (弧玖) is that restaurant that started off as Kyoto’s legendary Japanese kappo restaurant “Sakurada”.
I went once for lunch 2 years ago.
I ordered a 7000 yen course and was pleasantly surprised with the meal’s cost performance.
The food had a nice, mild flavor different from Ogata’s sharp flavor.
I would recommend going for a light lunch first to see if you like the taste.
I haven’t heard of the restaurant called Lida.

It is Iida, with three Michelin stars, right?
A kappo restaurant that has a lot of popularity with foodies in Japan, so it would be very hard to get a reservation.
Actually, I have not been there yet either.
It is different from Ogata, which tries to bring out the flavor of ingredients, while keeping salt to a minimum.
Their food is characterized as being delicate, with well refined seasonings that leave a strong impression.
If you get the opportunity, I do not think it would hurt to try that restaurant.
